Add linked items to a Sales Order when selecting a parent item.

Our company builds bespoke solutions which are configured from a base specification with the different configurations numbering in the thousands. Our solution includes linked items such as a steering axle which has different braking options depending on the size of the machine. This is just an example of the problem we have. This requires an extensive knowledge of the stock codes and how the different parts link together. My proposed solution is whenever a base model is selected on a sales order the base components are then automatically added onto the sales order also. This should be configurable so that items can be declared a parents and different items can be declared as children and can be updated or removed if the design changes in the future. From there if there was a way to view suggested items, or different options within the product group, within the sales order. Therefore whenever a different item is selected the previous item is removed and the sales order updated with the new item.

Idea Benefit Reduce time to enter bespoke sales orders and reduce the likelihood of human error.
How do you solve for this problem today? We created a excel spreadsheet that serves as our configurator that spits out the codes needed to properly put the sales order on Sage 200.

As an alternative, could you use the cross sell functionality in Sage 200 and then it would be an option during order entry? You can find out more in our product help - this is the specific link.

Have you looked at Sicon Kitting or, if you use subassemblies, the Bill of Materials module?

It would be unusual to add each component as a sales order line. Do you price the "base module" at the full price then each line at zero?
