Consistent naming protocols for item attributes

Item attributes don't have consistent naming protocols. For instance, on Stock Items list, items have a "code", "name" and "description", but when I move to the BOM list, the "code" has become, "reference", "name" has become "description" and the real "description" no longer exists?

It is very difficult to track parts through the system if I don't even know what it is called!
